Dr. Tzai-Tang Tsai, Ph.D.
Tzai-Tang Tsai received Ph.D degrees in Institute of Environmental Engineering from National Sun Yat-Sen Univ., Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the branches of Civil and Environmental Engineering (e.g., Hazardous waste treatment, Clean up of illegal dump sites and Soil and groundwater investigation and remediation). Currently, he serves on Cleanaway Company Limited, Taiwan. Dr. Tsai has received 2 national awards, including the Samuel Arnold Greeley Award of American Society of Civil Engineers in 2012 and the Best Paper Award of American Society of Civil Engineers in 2009. He has authored more than 52 technical publications, including 7 patents, 3 book chapters, 24 International Journal (SCI/EI), presented at more than 25 national and international conferences.
Dr. Ting-Yu Chen, Ph.D.
Ting-Yu Chen is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Landscape Architecture and Integrated Research Center for Green Living Technologies, National Chin-Yi University of Technology, Taiwan. He received the M.S. and the Ph.D. degrees Environmental Engineering from National Sun Yat Sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, respectively. He was a Lecturer in the Tzu-Hui Institute of Technology (Ping-tung, Taiwan, 2006). From 2007 to 2008, he spent one year at Poll TECH environment engineering company (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) as a project engineer on soil/ groundwater remediation (Development of biobarrier system and chemical oxidation technology to control the petroleum-hydrocarbon plume) and completed several major remediation projects for environmental engineering in Taiwan. After finishing his PhD, he worked as a research fellow in the integrated research center for green living technologies of National Chin-Yi University of Technology (Taichung, Taiwan) and research at the renewable energy with groundwater (Developing a Practical Geothermal Indoor Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning System). Dr. Chen has authored 3 books and more than 25 refereed (peer-reviewed) journal articles, presented at more than 15 national and international conferences. He also get the three professional licenses about waste treatment, water treatment and air pollution control of stationary sources (EPA, Taiwan). He is interested in groundwater and soil remediation, micro-organism application and treatment, water treatment, risk assessment, energy-saving technology.
Dr. Shu-Hao Liang, Ph.D.
Shu-Hao Liang received M.S and Ph.D degrees in Environmental Engineering from National Sun Yat-Sen University Taiwan. He is a Groundwater Remediation R&D Engineer in the Taiwan VCM Corporation. He is an Assistant Professor in Tajen universities. His research is focused on the design of biological substrate, soil/groundwater contamination assessment and remediation, waste/drinking water treatment and instrumental analysis. Chinese Institute of Environmental Engineering won several Best Paper Award recognition.
Dr. Ching-Yuan Chen, Ph.D.
Ching-Yuan Chen received his Ph.D. from Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan. He is a registered professional engineer in the branches of Civil and with extensive experience and management skills and works for a petrochemical company. The company develops and sells intermediate raw materials for plastics include PVC resins, VCM, caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, MBS, HDPE, EVA/LDPE and LLDPE. As a senior environment engineer he is responsible for the development of process improvement, energy conservation, pollution remediation and prevention. During 2007-2009, Dr. Chen has a short-term study at Konstanz University in Germany and was also employed as an assistant professor in the Mei-Ho University in Taiwan between 2009 and 2010. He has authored more than 20 technical publications, including 2 patents, 20 journal articles.
Dr. Pilli Sridhar, Ph.D.
Dr. Pilli Sridhar received his Ph.D in water science from Institut national de la recherche scientifique, University of Quebec, Canada and M.Tech from Indian Institute of technology, Kharagapur. Dr. Pilli’s Ph.D research work was evaluating pre-treatment technologies to enhance anaerobic digestion to improve energy production and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Dr. Pilli also worked on microbial fuel cells, covers for lagoons, PHA (bioplastic) production, nano-particles for lipid extraction, and wastewater treatment using membranes. Dr. Pilli research areas are water/wastewater treatment, life cycle analysis, life cost analysis, modelling of water/wastewater treatment, and bio-energy production from wastewater, wastewater sludge, and organic waste. Dr. Pilli has published 9 peer-reviewed Journal papers, 3 book chapters, and 10 conference presentations. He has strong multidisciplinary background including Civil engineering, Environmental Engineering and management, Environmental Chemistry & Biotechnology, etc.
Dr. Tanaji More, Ph.D.
Tanaji More has Ph.D in water science from INRS-ETE, University of Quebec, and M.Tech in Environmental Engineering and Management from Indian Institute of Technoloy, Kharaghpur. His thesis work was focused on development of novel bioflocculants from wastewater sludge as for their applications in water and wastewater treatment processes. He has published several refereed articles on his research work in journals such as Bioresource Technology, Environmental Management, Water Environment Research, Bioelectrochemistry and Environmental Technology. In addition, he has presented many papers at national and international conferences. During his Master studies, he has worked on developing cost-effective Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs) for energy recovery and wastewater treatment. He has also worked on technology development for alternative wastewater treatment using membrane filtration/coagulation. He has strong multidisciplinary background including Civil & Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry & Biology, Biotechnology, etc.
Dr. Kai-Qin Xu
Dr. Kai-Qin Xu is a Section Leader in Environmental Restoration and Conservation Technology Section, Center for Material Recycle and Waste Management Research, National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan. He received a B.Sc in Hydro-power Engineering from the Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering (Now Wuhan University), Wuhan, China in 1983 and a M.S and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Water supply and water treatment) from Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan in 1987 and 1990, respectively. Dr. Xu is interested in the development of water and wastewater treatment technology, water resource systems planning and management, the application of remote sensing technology to watershed management, energy recovery from organic waste (biomass), and the seasonal streamflow prediction based on the climatic indices in the large rivers. He is now continuing his research on watershed environmental management, and investigating individual environmental technologies, such as decentralized wastewater treatment technologies, including bio-eco technology to improve and restore the water environment. Dr. Xu has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal papers, 21 book chapters since 1996. Dr. Xu is a member of American Geophysical Union (AGU), International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), Japan Society of Water Treatment Biology (JSWTB), and Japan Society on Water Environment (JSWE).Dr. Xu is also a guest professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Wuhan University, and Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, and Visiting Senior Researcher of Keio University, Japan.
Dr. Varian Chien, Ph.D.
Varian Chien is an Assistant Professor in Department of marine environmental engineering at National Kaohsiung Marine University, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. He received his B.S. degree from the National Ping-Tung University of Science and Technology, M.S. degree from National Chung Hsing University, and Ph.D from National Sun Yat-Sen University, respectively. He is also a researcher at the Industrial Technology Research Institute, Green energy and Eco-system Center, ITRI South, Taiwan. He is expert on: development and application of charcoal; technology of green soil improvement and plant disease/pest control; application of Eco-Materials for cleaning environment; bioremediation water and waste; advanced water treatment technology and water resource management.
Dr. Xiaolei Zhang, Ph.D.
Xiaolei Zhang received her Ph.D in Water Science from INRS University of Quebec in 2013. Dr. Zhang’s research work was on bioconversion of municipal waste and industrial organic waste to bioenergy. She also studied on green technology for lipid extraction from oleaginous microorganisms, and in-situ trans-esterification of biomass to biodiesel. Dr. Zhang investigated and calculated energy balance of biofuel production from organic waste including wastewater sludge, crude glycerol, chicken manure, and wheat straw. She used the software called SuperPro Designer to estimate the cost of biofuel production from these organic wastes. Dr. Zhang was part of the team that received the Superior Achievement Award for Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science (the highest award of the 2015 competition) from American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES) for University Research work on “Bioconversion of Wastewater Sludge and Glycerol to Biodiesel.” Dr. Zhang has published more than 10 peer-reviewed journal papers, 9 book chapters, and many conference presentations.
Dr. Jay Shankar Singh Yadav, Ph.D
Jay Shankar Singh Yadav received his Ph.D from the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS), University du Quebec, Canada. His Ph.D research work was on production of single cell protein, characterization and recovery of residual fermented whey protein from cheese whey. He has completed his master degree (M. Tech) in Biotechnology from West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata and Bachelors degrees in biological and pharmaceutical sciences. He has worked as a project assistant on chemical standardization of pharmaceutical liquid dosage form at Indian Institute of Chemical Biology and as senior research fellow on the development of plant suspension culture of Camellia sinensis, for production of monoterpenoids/aroma compounds, their extraction and identification. His research areas are focused in Bioprocessing (worked on production, recovery and purification of biomass, enzymes, bioplastic, biopolymers, biopesticide and secondary metabolites), development/optimization of Bioanalytical techniques, Nanotechnology and health concerns due to emerging contaminants/toxic organic compounds. Dr. Jay Shankar has published/submitted 13 peer-reviewed international journal papers, 3 book chapters, various national/international conferences and technical reports.
Dr. Wei-Hsiang Huang, Ph.D.
Wei-Hsiang Huang received M.S. degree in environmental engineering from National University of Marine Science and Technology, Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 2011, and received his doctoral degree in environmental engineering from National Sun Yat-Sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 2015. His research interests include polluted land assessment and restoration, soil and groundwater remediation, molecular biotechnology, bioremediation and wastewater treatment. He has authored more than 15 technical publications, including 2 patents and 3 refereed (peer-reviewed) journal articles.
Dr. Zong-Han Yang, Ph.D.
Zong-Han Yang received his Ph.D. degree in environmental engineering from National Sun Yat-Sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 2015. Dr. Yang is an honor member of The Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society. His research areas are: soil and groundwater remediation, risk assessment, water quality modeling, site characterization, and water and wastewater treatment. Dr. Yang has received the Excellent Student Poster Presentation Award at the 3rd Annual Academic Conference of International Medical Geology Association in 2014 and the Best Paper Award for the excellent research paper at International Conference on Frontiers of Energy and Environment Engineering Conference in 2014. He has authored more than 21 technical publications, including one book chapter, 5 peer-reviewed journal papers, and 15 international conference papers.
Dr. Yih-Terng Sheu, Ph.D.
Yih-Terng Sheu received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from National Chi Nan University, Taiwan, in 2009 and 2011, respectively, and received doctoral degree in environmental engineering from National Sun Yat-Sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 2015. Currently, he is a Deputy Project Manager at PanCheng Engineering Consultants Ltd., Taiwan, a company devoted to water resource and watershed management, and he is also an adjunct lecturer at the General Education Center, National University of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. His research interests include soil and groundwater remediation, environmental nanotechnology, environmental molecular biotechnology, water resource and watershed management, and noise assessment and control. He has authored more than 25 technical publications, including 4 patents and 3 refereed (peer-reviewed) journal articles.
Dr. Vijayalakshmi Gosu, Ph.D.
Vijayalakshmi Gosu received Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in 2014 and M.Tech in Industrial Pollution Control from National Institute of Technology, Suratkal (NIT Suratkal) in 2009. She did her B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from J.N.T.U. Hyderabad in 2007. She has worked for a year as an Executive Environmental Engineer/Design Engineer at Neulands Laboratory. Her research work involves in development of nano-catalysts for the remediation of contaminated water and wastewater. she also has experience in design of pollution control equipment for variety of pollutants. She has received “Young Engineer Award” from Institute of Engineers India (IEI) in 2014 for her outstanding research contribution in the field of Environmental Engineering. In addition, she has published many research papers in well known and reputed international journals.
Dr. Ratul Kumar Das
Ratul Kumar Das has Ph.D. in water science from INRS-ETE, University of Quebec and a MSc. degree in the field of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from Tezpur Central University, India. His thesis work was focused on development of novel biochemical and bioprocess strategies for the enhanced production of the fumaric acid from agro-industrial wastes. During pre-PhD research carrier, he published many research articles on nano drug formulations and plant mediated green synthesis of gold nanoparticles. He has a very good expertise in the field of green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles and already published more than 15 articles in highly reputed journals and also has an Indian patent in his name. In addition, he has presented many papers at national and international conferences. Dr. Das is an Associate Editor of the international journal ‘Nanotechnology for Environmental Engineering” published by Springer. His current research areas of interest are value added products and green nanotechnology for wastewater treatment.
Dr. Prangya Ranjan Rout, Ph.D
Dr. Prangya Ranjan Rout is presently working as a Senior Research Fellow in the Environmental Engineering Division, School of Infrastructure Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar. His current Ph.D. research work is focused on “development and assessment of advanced treatment schemes for nutrient removal from low strength wastewater. His research interest lies in the field of Environmental Biotechnology, particularly in developing sustainable and affordable bio-reactors of variable scales for nutrient removal and recovery from wastewater of diverse origin. Before joining IIT Bhubaneswar, he worked as a faculty member in the Department of Biotechnology, National Institute of Technology Warangal. He received his M.Tech. Degrees in Biotechnology from the National Institute of Technology Rourkela. He has sound interdisciplinary background of Biotechnology and Environmental Engineering. He has authored more than 17 technical publications, including 12 peer-reviewed journal articles and 5 book chapters. In addition, he has presented 12 papers at national and international conferences and submitted 7 nucleotide sequences in NCBI data base in his name. He has been a peer reviewer of various international journals including ASCE Journal of Hazardous, Toxic and Radioactive Waste, Desalination and Water Treatment, Clean-Soil, Air, Water, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research & Brazilian Journal of Chemical Engineering, etc.
Dr. Krishnamoorthy Hegde, Ph.D.
Dr. Krishnamoorthy Hegde is a researcher at Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (Eau, Terre et Environnement, INRS-ETE), Québec, Canada. He completed his PhD in Biotechnology from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He holds more than 8 years’ industrial and academic research experience in the field of genetic engineering, environmental engineering, molecular biology, biocatalysis, bioprocess development, and renewable energy. He worked as a lead researcher for more than 4 years’ in different industrial sectors in the field of metabolic pathway engineering of yeast for production of therapeutic recombinant proteins (Navya Biologicals Pvt. Ltd., Hubli, India), sustainable biocatalyst development for bioremediation and effluent waste treatment for petrochemical wastes, technology transfer and field trials of the ‘in-house’ techniques developed at laboratory scale in petroleum refineries (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Green R&D Bangalore, India). He also worked on industrial-academic collaborative projects towards pathway engineering and strain improvement for biofuel production during his industrial postdoctoral research. His research contribution is credited with more than 20 peer reviewed research publications, 5 patents, 2 edited books and 10 book chapters. He also received several prestigious fellowships and awards, such as FRQNT Postdoctoral Fellowship, (2015-2016), TWAS-CONACYT Postdoctoral Fellowship, (2015-2016) and TUM Post-Doc Mobility Fellowship, (2014). Dr. Akshaya Kumar Verma, Ph.D
Dr. Akshaya Kumar Verma is an Assistant Professor in Department of Civil Engineering, Institute of Technical Education and Research, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University Bhubaneswar, India. He worked as Lecturer at Centre for Energy and Environment, National Institute of Technology Hamirpur, India. He received his Ph.D in Environmental Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar and M.Tech in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad, India. He received his B.Tech degree in Biotechnology from Uttar Pradesh Technical University Lucknow, India. His research focuses on physico-chemical, biological and advanced oxidation processes for treatment of industrial wastewater including bioenergy recovery. He has authored several technical publications in refereed(peer-reviewed) journal articles, book chapters, and presented several talks at national and international conferences.
Junior Research Associate
Mr. Pratyush Chaturvedi holds a first class B.Tech degree in Food Technology from Panjab University and has worked as Quality Assurance Officer at Bonn Nutrients Pvt. Ltd. In addition, he has been associated with several projects including the manufacturing of whisky, analysis of breakdowns in filler used during manufacturing process for cold sauces, and manufacturing of pasteurized milk and its products from raw milk. In this organization, his role is to promote the activities related to sustainability issues concerning food and water in India.
