Dr. Rao Y. Surampalli received M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Environmental Engineering from Oklahoma State and Iowa State Universities, respectively. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the branches of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and also a Board Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE) of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE) and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (DWRE). Dr. Surampalli has had a highly distinguished career over more than 38 years and is recognized worldwide as a key leader in environmental engineering. He worked for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) for 29 years and has retired from the USEPA as an Engineer Director. His career in private practice, government, university, and applied research has given him the opportunity to experience and appreciate the varied interests and challenges of the environmental engineering profession. He is an Adjunct Professor in seven universities and distinguished/honorary visiting professor in five universities. Currently, he serves, or has served on over 70 national and international committees, review panels, or advisory boards including on the ASCE National Committee on Energy, Environment and Water Policy. Dr. Surampalli is the past President of Civil Engineering Certification (CEC), Inc., an entity of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) that provides a mechanism for the post-licensure board certification of various specialties within civil engineering.
Dr. Surampalli is a Distinguished Alumnus of both the Oklahoma State University (OSU) and Iowa State University, and was also inducted into the OSU Engineering Hall of Fame in 2015. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, a Member of the Russian Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Water Environment Federation and International Water Association, and a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He also is Editor-in-Chief of the ASCE Journal of Hazardous and Toxic Waste, and Springer Journal of Nanotechnology for Environmental Engineering. In addition, he is past Vice-Chair of the Editorial Board of Water Environment Research Journal. He has conducted and coordinated major research efforts on 50 environmental engineering topics including: production of biodiesel, bioplastics, biopesticides from biosolids or waste; occurrence, removal and fate of emerging contaminants (pharmaceuticals, antibiotics, and endocrine disrupting chemicals) in water and wastewater treatment processes; water and wastewater treatment; solid and hazardous waste management; soil and groundwater remediation; resource recovery and reuse; environmental risk of nanomaterials and nanotechnology; bioenergy and biofuel production; greenhouse gas emissions and climate change mitigation; carbon capture and storage; clean and green technologies; infrastructure development and management; and sustainable development and life cycle assessment.
Dr. Surampalli is a prolific author and has added significantly to the professional literature. He has authored more than 600 technical publications, including 15 patents, 20 books, 136 book chapters, over 300 refereed (peer-reviewed) journal articles, over 109 gene bank submissions, presented at more than 240 national and international conferences, edited 13 refereed conference proceedings, and given over 127 plenary, keynote or invited presentations worldwide. Dr. Surampalli has received over 30 national awards/honors, including the 22nd “National Federal Engineer of the Year Award” in 2001 and was the first USEPA engineer to receive this prestigious award. He was also elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
Prof Tian C. Zhang

Dr. Tian C. Zhang is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), USA. He received his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1994. He joined the UNL faculty in August 1994. Professor Zhang teaches courses related to water/wastewater treatment, remediation of hazardous wastes, and non-point pollution control. Professor Zhang’s research involves fundamentals and applications of nanotechnology and conventional technology for water, wastewater, and stormwater treatment and management, remediation of contaminated environments, and detection/control of emerging contaminants in the environment. Professor Zhang has published more than 75 peer-reviewed journal papers, 43 book chapters and 9 books since 1994. Professor Zhang is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Water Environmental Federation (WEF), and the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP). Professor Zhang is a Diplomate of Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers, and Board Certified Environmental Engineers (BCEE) of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, Fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers (F. ASCE), and Academician of European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Professor Zhang is the Associate Editor of Journal of Environmental Engineering (since 2007), Journal of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (since 2006), and Water Environment Research (since 2008). He has been a registered professional engineer in Nebraska, USA since 2000.
Prof. Jimmy (C.M.) Kao

Dr. Jimmy (C.M.) Kao, is a distinguished professor in the Institute of Environmental Engineering at National Sun Yat-Sen University, Taiwan. Dr. Kao is also the Coordinator of Environmental Engineering Program of Taiwan National Science Council and President of Taiwan Association of Soil and Groundwater Environmental Protection. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1989 and 1993, respectively. Dr. Kao has more than 24 years of experience as a researcher and environmental engineer in water quality modeling, watershed management, soil and groundwater remediation, contaminated site characterization, wastewater treatment, and risk assessment. Prof. Kao is a fellow member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), an Academician of European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA), a fellow member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a fellow member of the Environment and Water Resource Institute (EWRI), Academician of European Academy of Sciences and Arts, a Registered Professional Engineer in the branch of Civil Engineering, a Certified Ground Water Professional, and a Professional Hydrologist in the United States. He is also a Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Diplomate of American Academy of Water Resources Engineers. He is also the Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal: Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste; and WEF Journal: Water Environment Research. Dr. Kao has published more than 18 patents, 190 refereed journal articles, and many book chapters.
Deepak Eric Surampalli, MBA
Chief Financial and Operating Officer
Deepak Eric Surampalli serves as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), including but not limited to the following responsibilities: accounting and finance management, marketing management, information technology, human resources, and administrative services. With several years of business experience, Deepak has worked with both large and small organizations in the areas of engineering and environment, operations, finance, strategic sales and marketing, and business development. He has a passion for Renewable Energy and Environmental Sustainability, which he directly influences into the GIEES company culture as COO. He earned a B.S. in Environmental Science from University of Kansas in 2011 and a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Ethical and Strategic Leadership from the University of Central Missouri in 2015.
